Brief

As a charity that relies on public donations to survive, all mountain rescue teams are faced with a difficult task of raising awareness and funds, especially as it is run by volunteers in their spare time. With over 40 years of service, the Ashburton team had a great collection of rescue accounts that they wanted publishing in to a retailable book. I was also asked to produce four display boards and a brochure for the team to use during fundraising events.

Specification

Working with the charity’s chairman, Alex Collier, I collated and edited the stories in to a 52 page book along with illustrations and photographs. I supplemented a small collection of images that were supplied with my own that I had previously taken of the team on training exercises. Together with team volunteers, we proofed the copy several times before publishing with Short Run Press in Exeter.

The display boards were laid out with copy provided by the fundraising manager, Al Pewsey along with assets that I had created.

Deliverables

From start to finish, this project lasted some months as it had to fit around volunteer’s free time, including interviews to enhance the copy. The book is now available to purchase in local retailers across South Devon.
