We kept in touch with some of our NCT friends from when we lived in Devon and now we live in Bristol, being halfway between us, Wimbleball Lake in Exmoor seemed to be the perfect place to go for an autumnal walk with a café (there was demand for a juicy burger).
Normally I would sling my X100V over my shoulder for a day like this but knew the 16-80mm would be more sensible which meant lugging an X-Pro2. I think it was worth it though, I so rarely take photos at anything longer than 33mm these days, it’s fun to mix it up.
Unfortunately, the café was closed… on a Friday during half term! It must be hard to find staff to work in rural areas, but the activity centre was open, although they admitted they were a different business.
Not being perturbed, we took the two dachshunds and accompanying 5-year-olds for a wander along to the dam where we could admire the trees starting to change colour.
I had passed through these woods at the start of October on my annual bikepacking trip. The whole section up through Hartford over to Upton is gorgeous.
After the walk, we backtracked to the [really good, dog and kid friendly] Ralegh’s Cross after our walk where we did find the required burger.
