Early in June I had the opportunity to photograph the wonderful, intrepid, and slightly mad Laura Bingham. The adventurer has sailed the Atlantic, cycled across South America and Paddled a World-First Descent of The Essequibo River; to say I was a bit star-struck is an understatement.
Laura was meeting the illustrator for her new children’s book, also called Laura, and they wanted some photographs to use whilst promoting the book and a sponsored cycle to support the invaluable work of children’s charities Operation South America and Read For Good.
Both Lauras were utterly charming and made my job so easy. They were totally comfortable in front of the camera and happy for me to just sniper around in the background capturing them candidly. This reportage style is definitely the way I like to work as people are so much more relaxed when they have something to do/talk about instead of looking at the camera.
After getting to know each other (including Ran) over a brew, we took a bunch of photos inside Laura’s amazing studio. Then we went for a casual walk around Teignmouth to grab some more relaxed images for use in press releases that captured the iconic scenery in the background.
