Exploring King’s Wood near Cleeve for a colourful autumn walk

My two year old kid said he wanted to “go to the woods” today which suited me fine as I’ve wanted an excuse walk around King’s Wood between Claverham and Wrington for a while. I’m trying to scout my walks on locations that might provide me with a subject for an upcoming book and I knew there might be some abandoned relics around Woolmers.

The car park at the bottom of Goblin Combe is a great place to start for a walk around Brockley Combe and the surrounding woodlands. With little legs in tow, I wasn’t expecting much, but he’s a resilient little kid and spent most of the time asking to find more mud.

The walk starts by turning right from the car park, then left signposted as a bridlepath. After a about 300m, at the end of the lane, you turn left and follow a footpath all the way up the hill – it’s pretty obvious and there’s loads of signs directing you.

At Woolmers, there’s a small gathering of houses where we found a couple of old abandoned things, but nothing reclaimed by nature enough to be worthy of the project so we just enjoyed the autumnal colours instead.

As is often the case, all of these are shot with a Fuji X100V using Pro Neg Std.
