Bristol Pride was spectacular this year with the weather playing much nicer than in 2023 (my forehead is steadily returning to a normal colour).
This year I was part of the official photographers which gave me some more access (I was stood 2 feet away from the stage canon going off at the end of Claire Richards Euphoria!)
I came to Bristol Pride 2024 with a different stance to 2023. I was very keen to photograph the festival on a more candid level. This is because there was plenty of other photographers there using 70-200s, whereas I was there with my Leica Q2 and a Panasonic LX100. This is similar to my wedding photography set up, where I use a 56mm instead of the LX100 but I wanted a bit more flexibility, whilst still moving about really light footed.
All I had was a Pacsafe hip bag loaded with batteries, cards and a water bottle which felt really liberating. The LX100 fitted in there, even with my phone, which meant I could spend all day bouncing about uninhibited.
My Q2 delivered insanely good photos, as always, but the autofocus and speed can’t compete with the nippy LX100 so I felt like I had a good balance.
These images are have a typical event photography style to them but I was also on the ground capturing serendipitous human interactions for my Pride in the Moment project that you can see here.
